Despite this the aim is for your group to achieve a common goal and therefore you must put your differences aside so that your team can succeed.
Effort and focus - Everyone in the group needs to put in the required effort in order to complete the task or achieve the agreed goal. Don't rely on your team members to do your work, make sure that you work to the best of your ability. This will encourage your team to work hard as well and prevent conflict between your members.McMillan and Weyers (2009).

Leadership
At first it might seem strange to be thinking about leadership skills when you are going to be starting high school because you will be in the youngest grade. However leader ship skills do not require you to be a certain age. Leadership skills are something that you can demonstrate any time and you will use as you participate cooperatively with others.
Each grade level at high school will also have student representatives that voice the opinions of the students in their grade level. Even if you do not get a leadership position you should talk to your year level representative if you would like to share your opinions or concerns about your school.

Group work
When working collaboratively as a group each person in the group should take on a specific role and responsibility. These roles often fit personalities and strengths of that person which allows your group to work effectively. Therefore having diverse members in your group is beneficial as you are able to learn from each other's points of view and include a range of ideas into your work.
Activity 1: Reflect on ways that you can take responsibility for your own actions.
Activity 2: Write a list of skills and characteristics that you believe are required to be an effective leader within your school.
Activity 3: Identify which team role you think you are most like and explain why.
Class activity 1: Work as a group to make classroom posters about maintaining your personal and physical wellbeing. As a group assign the appropriate roles to your group members. Your teacher will specify the time limit and materials to use. Your teacher will be observing which group demonstrates the best team work skills.
